Probiotics in Skincare – Sebamed PRO! Vital Serum And Energizing Cream Review

(Not sponsored. No affiliate links.)

Probiotics are something that we in our mind tie up with gut flora and everyone is telling us that’s something very important for our immune system. Those little critters, trillions of them are our good symbiotic partners, and actually we wouldn’t be able to live without them. They represent our wellbeing in every sense of that word.

A good part of that bunch is living on our skin. And are responsible for what we call good, healthy skin. Any disbalance of this microbiome is resulting in acne, skin dryness, skin sensitivity and other skin issues. But luckily today we know we can restore that sensitive balance with good skin products applied topically.

There are three types of biotics that we should keep our attention to just to make sure we are talking about good skin care products:

  • Probiotics (look for Lactobacillus, Bifidabacterium, Vitreoscilla, and various ferments in the ingredients list) (1),
  • Prebiotics – food for probiotics to make them strong and happy (look for xylitol, rhamnose, glucomannan, and oligosaccharides in the ingredients list) (1),
  • Postbiotics is something that is left after probiotics break down and is responsible for good, healthy skin barrier and overall skin fitness and those are hyaluronic acid, peptides, ceramides, various vitamins (1),
  • Lysate ingredients (1) (mentioned here) as derivative of probiotics are excellent part of this badass skincare team.

Very important thing to mention is that like fingerprints, there are no two identical microbiomes in this world. Understandably, it is impossible to make 7.8 billion different bespoke probiotic skincare products to match our very own skin microbiome, instead it’s only logical (Spock’s voice) to make universal probiotic skincare product BUT with above mentioned combos.

Another important thing is always a good formulation and good pH of the skincare product. All about skin pH please read here.

And this is what takes us to this skincare products collection of Sebapharma, brand from Germany and their sebamed PRO! Line.

This is what they claim:

The PRObiotic care agent promotes the regeneration of existing signs of skin ageing. Together, the PRObiotic care agent and the pH value of 5.5 even more effectively improve the skin’s protection barrier and the barrier function against harmful external influences.

There are three collections of sebamed PRO! products:

  • Prevention (with UVA protection)
  • Vitalization to reduce fine wrinkles and to improve skin firmness (this is my fit and today’s feature – Vital Serum and Energizing Cream),
  • Regeneration for regeneration of pronounced wrinkles and with plump-up effect.

Sebamed PRO! Vital Serum Ingredients

Aqua, Glycerin, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Polyglyceryl-6 Stearate, Psilanthus bengalensis leaf cell culture extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lactic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Chloride, Polyglyceryl-6 Behenate, C18-22 Hydroxyalkyl Hydroxypropyl Guar, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate

No probiotics, no prebiotics, but postbiotics and lysate combo very high on the list. Very elegant formulation though. pH tested and proven 5.5. Nice.

Rosacea safe?

Yes

Who is it for?

All skin types, aging skin, sensitive skin

Does it work?

Although I cannot put this serum among other high-end skin care products that actually have all above mentioned biotic combinations, there is something I cannot deny – this serum does soothe skin that’s crazy. Very hydrating and very skin friendly. Simple, no ado serum. But my skin loves it. It shows with not a glow, not a glass skin, but healthy, no frills, no fuss skin. Just skin. Perfect to set skin straight after over exfoliating, over doing it all.

This serum combines well with other skin care stuff like exfoliators before or extra shot of ceramides or peptides and vitamins later. But I like it straight. Just this serum and the cream of its kind.

Thumbs up?

Yes!

Ingredients

Sebamed PRO! Energizing Cream Ingredients

Aqua, Dicaprylyl Ether, Simmondsia chinensis seed oil, Glycerin, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Squalane, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Fagus sylvatica bud extract, Lactic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hydroxide, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzoic Acid

Same thing as with serum. Lysate and postbiotic combo with added jojoba oil and squalane.

Rosacea safe?

Yes

Who is it for?

All skin types, aging skin, sensitive skin

Does it work?

Almost everything I wrote for the serum, is valid for this cream. Same flaws with actually missing probiotics combination with prebiotics, but still very moisturizing, soothing and cannot say it isn’t doing its job properly. This cream would fit dry skin, combination skin, but very oily can benefit from its nightly care. Boosting it with vitamin c (powder or silicone form) can make it crazy good skin care bomb but again, I like it straight. Just that serum and this cream. Sometimes basic works the best.

Thumbs up?

Yes!
