What is it?
It is an essence; a product much more concentrated with active ingredients than toner but can be used as one.
This one in particular caught my attention with interesting combination of snail mucus and not so much gold but herbal extracts, and of course, ‘wrinkle functional cosmetics’ as Farm Stay claims this essence to be.
Here is what this South Korean brand says about this product:
With filtered snail slime, this product moisturizes your dry skin. You can experience pure and clean skin itself. This essence is helpful for protecting your dry skin from the external environment and for wrinkle improvement with its Adenosine. Also, its filtered snail slime is good for your skin balance moisturizing your skin and permeated to skin without stickiness, it improves skin health and maintains elasticity. Gold in this essence will calm and purify your tired skin from harmful environment. /Farm Stay/
Farm Stay Gold Escargot Noblesse Intensive Lifting Essence comes in rather luxurious glass 150 ml / 5.07 fl.oz. bottle. In this bottle, there is rather thick, viscous liquid of golden yellow colour with visually attractive gold flakes floating inside.
There is only one tiny problem with this packaging. There is a plastic cap with tiny opening on the top of the bottle. As this essence is too thick, it simply won’t get out the bottle, so I have to remove that plastic cap every time I’m about to use this essence. And that cap don’t come off so easily I must add.
Scent is rather intensive, heavy perfume.
After cleansing, apply a suitable amount of this product all over the face, along the skin texture. Spread it evenly from the center of the face to the outside. /Farm Stay/
Sometimes I use it as the first step after cleansing, before other actives, or simply in the essence step after hydrators. It works either way.
Water, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Betaine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Allantoin, Adenosine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA, Snail Secretion Filtrate(0.65mg), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Gold(650ppm), Phellinus Linteus Extract, Perilla Frutescens Leaf Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Red Ginseng Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Schizonepeta tenuifolia Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Fragrance
Ok, here we go. This ingredients list is NOT copied from Farm Stay official website, or any other place. This is written down straight from the package of the essence I purchased. And is rather different than you can find it online.
This one is much much better than advertised!
Although claimed to be moisturizing, glycerine and sodium hyaluronate alone in this formulation are simply not enough to properly hydrate especially dry skin.
On the other hand, this is rather impressive cocktail of great ingredients combining modern (betaine, allantoin, adenosine) with hanbang (traditional Asian medicine) ingredients.
My attention went to Phellinus Linteus mushrooms that I elaborately wrote about here. Fantastic, almost miraculous ingredient with healing properties. Other botanical extract are shiso, red ginseng, Chinese skullcap, kudzu and Japanese catnip, all very powerful anti-inflammatory and overall healing ingredients.
Not to forget the very name of this essence, gold escargot. Well, gold is just beautiful. It has no skincare properties, but the snail (escargot) mucin is the star of the show. South Korean skin care is rather fond of this ingredient and that is not without a cause. Snail mucin has various benefits for the skin including evening skin tone, fighting free radicals, solving hyperpigmentation issues, acne and other inflammatory skin conditions etc. …
Rather engaged ingredient, one could say.
Who is it for?
All skin types
Does it work?
‘With filtered snail slime, this product moisturizes your dry skin.’
No, it does not.
This essence is simply not moisturizing enough by its (miss)formulation. I always, and I mean always, use it with other hydrating or moisturizing skin care products (serums, moisturizers…) to achieve normal size face skin. Not one or two sizes down feel to it. If that’s an ‘Intensive Lift’… it’s intensive all right. Oily skin types could love this.

Ok, I’m buying this, but only in combination with something else hydrating and moisturizing enough.
‘Gold in this essence will calm and purify your tired skin from harmful environment.’ /Farm Stay/
No, it will not.
Gold is never proven to have any of skincare benefits, except its pure cosmetic purpose. It can however highlight skin or give it some glow in pure cosmetic manner (I mentioned it here)
However, other ingredients in this essence, those botanical and slimy ones, are pure wow! Yes! Those herbs and mushrooms and snails will do their job in anti-inflammatory, anti-redness, anti-wrinkle department just nicely. And this is where this essence got me. It is not moisturizing, it is not oily or bursting with hydration, but it will soothe, it will brighten and it will calm skin down. Even the anti-wrinkle action can be seen around the eye area. This essence gave me that calm, bright skin look without nasties that usually come with the package – no breakouts, no irritations, no wtf moments.
Overall, I am pleasantly surprised with this essence. If I say it is my favourite snail product, would you believe me?
