What is it?
It is an essence. Of the essence for the sensitive or sensitized skin. Something I would gladly use instead of toner right after cleansing to give my skin a relief when it is agitated and unhappy. Essence of the skin happiness. Ok, I caught myself using it only to keep my skin happy these days.
Missha, one of the most popular Korean skincare and beauty brands released this new addition to Time Revolution line and caught us to realize this essence is nothing like the original Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence. Instead of the original’s 32 ingredients, Artemisia Treatment Essence has only one. Yes. One.
It is Artemisia Annua double fermented extract. Or, double fermented common annual mugwort. Healing, soothing, very much used in folks medicine as one of the most powerful herbs. In this particular essence, mugwort extract naturally fermented twice, warm and cold environment, only to get richer and more powerful so to speak.
Here is what Missha says about this essence:
A concentrated, soothing essence that was formulated with double fermented Artemisia Annua Extract to soothe, balance skin.
- Enriched with Artemisinin, rich in Vitamin A & C to calm and shoothe skin with anti-inflammtory benefit
- Helps stabilize skin’s foundation and smooth the appearance of skin texture
- Non-comedogenic, suitable for acne-prone skin /Missha/
Missha Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence comes in beautiful sturdy 150 ml /5.07 fl.oz. bottle, but you can find online travel size 30 ml /1.01 fl.oz. bottles, packed in convenient box with 20 cotton pads included.
This essence is pure mugwort and it smells just like it. Fresh, herbal, beautiful. It’s of very thin texture, watery and runny, but with slight sticky feel to it (when you overdo it).
How to use it?
- After cleansing, pour the Treatment Essence onto a cotton pad or into the palm of the hand.
- Apply to face and neck, pressing gently and evenly into skin until the essence has soaked in. /Missha/
I use it instead of toner. Simple as that. I double layer it and sometimes that is all I need. For those bad skin days, you can soak cotton pads or lotion mask with this essence and use it as soothing treatment. It works.
100% Double fermented Artemisia Annua Extract
Yes, nothing else. Check out what scholars (Pamela J. Weathers et al.) say about this ingredient: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4323188/
Yes, unless you are allergic to mugwort. Then no.
Who is it for?
All skin types, sensitive skin, sensitized skin
Does it work?
Like a charm. Soothes, calms and works great in anti-redness, anti-inflammatory department. Very hydrating, but tends to be a tad sticky when you get to that third layer because you can’t get enough of it.
I usually need just a light moisturizer after this essence and my skin is totally happy. Of course, you can get all the way to the tenth of the Korean skincare steps, but I’m trying to say, this essence with its one ingredient whisks me to minimalistic side of skincare routines.
