What is it?
This is one heck of a moisturizer, but, actually, what are ceramides?
Ceramides are fats (lipids) that keep our skin cells in skin uppermost layers together so the skin integrity and its protective layer is in its proper state. Simply said, the strength of lipid structure determines how our skin looks or how it responds to external factors. I wrote about skin and its structure in this article. More on skin barrier read here.
That glue or mortar that keeps the wall made of skin cells are actually ceramides. Lack of ceramides happens with aging or simply it is compromised with external factors like sun exposure, pollution or other internal reasons (inflammation, skin damage). Often the most visible outcome of ceramide deficiency is skin dehydration.
Replenishing ceramides with the skin care products is possible and is actually one of the main skin care goals – antiaging and skin renewal. So, adding ceramides in your daily skin care cocktail is necessary to keep your skin nice and strong. Strong skin barrier, strong skin.
Paula’s Choice is brand from the USA and is my go to brand. Paula Begoun, the founder, is the person from whom I learned the difference between various skin care products and their ingredients, or simply, what is skin care per se.
That was my game changer skin wise, and the first step into this beautiful world of skin care.
Clinical Ceramide-Enriched Firming Moisturizer is, like I said, one heck of a moisturizer. It is launched in the beginning of 2018. Infused with various Vitamin C derivatives, retinol and ceramides (CollagenSupport Complex) this product surely attacks main skin problems.
This is what the brand says about this product:
‘Visibly smooth wrinkles, renew a firmer feel and enhance moisture balance with a concentrated blend of ceramides plus a potent blend of vitamin c and retinol that plumps skin and fortifies skin’s protective barrier.
- Strengthens the building blocks of healthy skin
- Replenishing lipids deliver a supple look & feel
- Creamy-smooth lotion intensely hydrates
- Use daily to keep skin firm & resilient’ /Paula’s Choice/
This product comes in renewed Paula’s Choice design 50 ml / 1.7 fl. oz. container with airless pump. It is yellow colour cream and it has very pleasant caramel scent to it. It is thick and thin at the same time, very easy to apply. It leaves no residue on skin. No colour, no sticky feeling. Absorbs quickly into the skin.
How to use it?
At night, use as the last step in your skincare routine. For daytime, follow with a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater.
Note: This anti-aging moisturizer contains a stronger, highly focused mix of anti-aging ingredients, including several forms of vitamin C and retinol. For best results, do not apply at the same time as other vitamin C or retinol products until you see how your skin responds. If you experience signs of sensitivity, reduce frequency of use. /Paula’s Choice/
I gradually incorporated this into my night skin care routine. At first few weeks, I used it every other night until it became an every night last step.

It should be. But, if you can’t tolerate vitamin C or retinol, then this is not for you. My rosacea, on the other hand, loves these two. Even better when combined together.
Who is it for?
All skin types
Does it work?
This is one of my all-time favourites. This works so fast that it’s unbelievable. From the first pat, it made my skin visibly smoother, brighter, clearer. I received so many compliments on my skin.

After a month or so of regular use, I could already see fine lines are smoother, skin texture was overall better. The most important visible change was that my old acne scars had become more in line with the rest of the skin. That one blew me away.
I am not writing this out of simple rooting for Paula’s Choice. Oh, they had their fails all right (Calm line isn’t at all calming for me. Just the opposite.), but this product is plain and simple excellent. One can say a bit pricey, but…
Ceramides work, my friends. And when supported with strong antioxidants and collagen boosters, they can do a little miracle on your skin. Like they did it on mine.
