Soosul Skin and Soosul Lotion – Phellinus Mushrooms in Your Skincare – Review

Soosul is Korean skincare brand with line of products with star ingredient Sang-Hwang mushroom. Sang-Hwang mushroom or Phellinus Linteus is considered very (and I mean) very efficient herbal remedy for all sorts of various diseases.

This is the excerpt from website http://phellinus-research.com :

“Phellinus linteus, Natural Sang Hwang has long been recognized as said in the old documents “If you can find a thousand years old lingzhi on an old Mulberry tree, you can save a dying person”.

Phellinus linteus has been widely used in Japan, Korea and China.  In 1993, Korea has succeeded in developing an anti-tumor medicine from Phellinus linteus.  In 1968, Dr. Ikegawa’s research team released their paper “Anti-tumor action of some basidiomycetes, especially Phellinus linteus” in a Japanese medicinal journal; Phellinus linteus became very popular among the researchers and scientists.   The efficacy of natural vs cultivated Phellinus mushrooms: “Artificially cultivated Phellinus linteus may be short on efficacy.  Only natural ones are genuine Phellinus linteus.”  Phellinus linteus grows naturally in trunks of willow, paper mulberry and elm tree that is more than 100 years old, and shall grow for minimum 30 to 40 years to make a fruit body being used for medical application.  In addition, the growth conditions such as humidity, temperature and lighting are very delicate, so that Phellinus linteus is very rare in the nature.  That is the reason why, it is almost impossible to collect and take a fruit body in the nature.

(…)

Sang Hwang (Phellinus linteus) ranked number one of the superior medicines, is the most exalted medicine in ancient times and has been used for perpetual youth and longevity.  All observations show that Sang Hwang (Phellinus linteus) has no side effects and can be consumed in high dosages and in parallel with other medications.

Sang Hwang (Phellinus linteus) has been revered as herbal medicines for thousands of years in China and Japan. Emperors of the great Chinese Dynasties and Japanese royalty drank tea and concoction of the Sang Hwang (Phellinus linteus) for vitality and long life.  In Chinese History, the great Emperor Qin (Qin Chi Huang, 220 B.C.) once sent 3000 boys and girls to Japan’s islands to search for a kind of lingzhi for the elixir of eternal youth. Sang Hwang (Phellinus linteus) was believed to be the one.”

Sang Hwang is rich with anti-oxidants and possesses powerful anti-inflammatory and antiaging properties. Some studies even consider it having anti-cancer agents.

For all of above mentioned characteristics, it’s no mystery why Soosul based its branding on this mushroom along with traditional “hanbang” (Asian traditional medicine) ingredients. It is also not a mystery why I, as a “rosacean”, grasped these products once I learned they existed.

What is it?

With pH 5.2 -5.8 this gel type toner with 1% Sang-Hwang mushroom extract is excellent first step after cleansing. More about skin pH and why it is important read here.

This toner (Korean skin) comes in beautiful, made of glass and heavy 130 ml / 4.39 fl.oz. bottle. It is yellowish transparent viscous liquid rather thick for a toner (gel type) with beautiful herbal, floral, perfumy scent characteristic for all Soosul products. It can be rather overwhelming for some, but I really like it.

How to use it?

Apply a proper amount after cleansing or massaging, or soak in a cotton pad and wipe out lightly along the skin.

I use it in both, morning and night routines after cleansing and before other skincare steps.

And here we are. Look all this herbal extracts alongside Phellinus Linteus! True hanbang at its best.

Hyaluronic Acid, Betaine, Allantoin, Arbutin, vitamin E – lovely addition to moisturizing and skin conditioning properties.

Here added fragrance proved not to be sensitizing to my skin.

Rosacea safe?

Yes

Who is it for?

All skin types, especially for sensitive, troubled, aging skin. Check, check and check!

This product has very high content of fermented ingredients, use with caution if you suffer from any skin condition caused by the malassezia type of yeast. Including seborrheic dermatitis.

Fermented ingredients and malassezia yeast are not exactly the best friends.

Does it work?

I can rarely say this, but this was my HG toner right upon first application. I had samples, used them up in no time, and then purchased full-size product.

It instantly calms my skin down and skin improvement is quickly visible. It provides skin with instant hydration boost and prepares it for further skincare steps.

Rich with green tea extract it also possesses astringent properties, and I can see my pores seem to be less visible upon application.

I use it on and off for several months now and I can only say that I will not be without it.

I can even say that it did affect my rosacea. In the best manner possible. Inflammation seems to subside except in those times when hormones strike. And rosacea answers back. And I go crazy. Well, ok…

I can only say, my fellow rosaceans go for it! This one works.

Thumbs up?

Yes

What is it?

Spock mode on: It is only logical (Spock mode off) to make a lotion succeeding skin (toner).

Same elegant glass bottle and same volume (130 ml / 4.39 fl.oz.). Same herbal scent.

It is of creamy texture, yellowish colour. Only thing that bothers me with its texture is that it comes in the bottle with no pump. God almighty, do I swear every time it refuses to come out of the bottle!

How to use it?

Apply a coin-size amount and smooth on the face and throat before cream.

Always after toner (skin) and before other creams. Mornings and nights.

Here again, hanbang ingredients (even richer with herbal extracts than the toner) alongside 3% Sang-Hwang mushroom extract.

Rosacea safe?

Yes

Who is it for?

Every skin type, but do the patch test first. This stuff is powerful and rich with herbal extracts that can be sensitizing for some.

Does it work?

All I have written for skin (toner) applies to this lotion too. It is soothing, works great for my skin. It promises skin improvement and it delivers.

For dryer skin types, this certainly can’t be the last step of the routine as it is not that nourishing, but in summertime, it just might be. For oilier skin types, this lotion can be enough moisturizer needed.

Sang-Hwang mushrooms do seem to work for my skin. I still cannot confirm the miraculous healing of my rosacea, but baby steps, right? Ok, I live to be very pretty and young looking 80 years old. With whole depot of skincare products.

Live long and prosper!
